Resources for Young People in Court
Brave Maya, Maya's Homes, and Brave Oscar are books to help children (ages 2-6) have less traumatic experiences in court. The books were developed by the Center for Court Innovation and the Center for Urban Pedagogy through an Obama administration grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
During the design process, hundreds of court-involved youth, their families, and youth advocates reviewed and shaped drafts of the written and visual material. My role spanned illustrations and conducting stakeholder interviews and user testing sessions in New York, California, and Alabama. The materials are free to download and print here. Below are sample pages.
